Our Team
Eileen Elam, president of KJ Communications, has built a successful agency with a team of results-oriented employees that deliver public relations and strategic marketing/messaging programs for high-tech companies. During her 14-years leading KJ Communications, she has taken companies public, overseen merger/acquisition strategies, executed crisis management campaigns, successfully launched a number of startup companies, and structured and implemented company launch, product launch and issues campaigns. She sets herself apart from other PR professionals as she has the skills and savvy to increase clients' market visibility through the creation of high-impact messages that draw the attention of target customers, the investment community and media. Ms. Elam's clients have come to rely on her strategic communication and message development capabilities, visionary industry outlook, in-depth understanding of technology and outstanding writing abilities.
Ms. Elam has represented companies in clean technology, semiconductor, networking, electronic design automation, intellectual property, networking, wireless, data warehousing, mobile device, information technology, embedded systems, voice over IP industries plus others. She has a strong technology background which is of value to many of her clients.
Prior to joining KJ Communications, Ms. Elam was a senior account executive at Tsantes & Associates, which was later acquired by Porter Novelli. While there, she was responsible for the public relations activities of Fortune 500 companies as well as startup companies. Her responsibilities included development and execution of corporate awareness campaigns, new product launches, crisis management, technology training seminars for employees, and managing a team of PR coordinators.
Ms. Elam moved to Tsantes & Associates from Cadence Design Systems, Inc., where she was Marketing Communications Manager. At Cadence, she was responsible for new product launches, building a comprehensive public relations program, establishing an executive author program, developing sales messages and collateral, writing a newsletter, editorial communications and trade show activities.
Before joining Cadence, Ms. Elam was Marketing Communications Manager at Polymetrics, Inc., an industrial water purification company.
Ms. Elam is a member of Vistage International, an organization that increases the effectiveness and enhances the lives of chief executives and those they influence. She is a Court Appointed Child Advocate, whereby she has helped children "in the System." She is an avid sportswoman and previously competed in the equestrian world and on the ski slopes. Now she enjoys mountain and road biking.
Ms. Elam earned a Bachelor of Science degree from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, California.
Kella Knack has more than 30 years marketing experience for a wide range of companies from small start-ups to multi-million dollar corporations. Over the years, Knack has gained wide-spread recognition for her ability to assist a plethora of companies in developing their long-term strategic positioning goals; developing their marketing messaging and implementing highly successful corporate marketing programs. She recently rejoined KJ Communications after holding an in-house position for a compelling startup company.
Most recently, Knack has served as Vice President of Marketing for Speeding Edge, a firm specializing in engineering consulting and training for the design of high speed printed circuit boards (PCBs) and high speed computer systems. In this position, Knack has been responsible for establishing, implementing and maintaining all of the marketing procedures for Speeding Edge as well as overseeing day-to-day business activities for the company. She oversaw the redesign of the company's website - prepared all of the documentation for and implemented the establishment of Speeding Edge as a publishing company; developed all of the company's marketing materials; and managed the company's tradeshow activities. She also established key strategic relationships with companies in Germany and Denmark for conducting the company's courses in Europe; oversaw the expansion of the company's marketing activities into Europe, Canada and Asia; oversaw the editing and publishing of the company's two technical books, "Right the First Time, A Practical Handbook on High Speed PCB and System Design, Volume 1 and 2" and also developed the company's quarterly newsletter, Current Source.
Knack served as President of KJ Communications for 10-years. During this time, she served as a strategic advisor for a number of highly successful marketing issues and campaigns for clients that ranged from start-ups to multimillion dollar high-tech companies in the EDA, networking, semiconductor, embedded systems design and database management sectors. Once the marketing programs were defined, she focused her efforts for these clients by coordinating their press activities; and helping with the development of other marketing materials.
Before this, she held a number of positions as an editor for high tech trade publications including ASIC- LAN Computing; Communications Systems Week and Printed Circuit Design. Earlier, she served as a CDM Engineer for Martin Marietta where she was responsible for preparing Class I Engineering Change Proposals for military and aerospace projects. She began her career as a technical writer for Morrison-Knudsen company, a worldwide engineering and construction firm.
Cheryl brings over 12 years experience covering the high-tech industry for such publications as Electronic Design, Embedded Systems Development and Wireless Systems Design. At KJ Communications, she continues to produce top-tier contributed articles and technical papers.
Beyond her efforts at KJ Communications, Cheryl is also the owner of Custom Media Solutions, specializing in providing technology-based content for the Internet, publications, trade shows and a range of high-tech companies. She is the former Editor in Chief of Wireless Systems Design (WSD) Magazine, a Penton Media Publication. Prior to her move to WSD, she served as the Electronic Design Automation (EDA) Editor for Electronic Design magazine. While working for Electronic Design she also served as the Advanced Technology Editor and as the editorial liaison for Electronic Design China. In addition to her work on Electronic Design, she held the position of Systems on Silicon Editor for Embedded Systems Development magazine starting in January of 1999. Her career as a technical editor and freelance writer has spanned a twelve+-year time frame.
Prior to her work in the editorial field, Cheryl worked as a Solar Array Engineer for Space Systems/Loral. Her primary task was to design and test the solar arrays for such satellite programs as Superbird, GOES and GlobalStar. While working for Space Systems/Loral she was responsible for the development of a patented solar cell detection system known as NIRIS (Near InfraRed Inspection System). Her work in industry has also included stints as a statistical/failure analysis engineer for IBM in Austin, Texas and as a logistical engineer for the Department of Defense´s Naval Air Rework Factory in Coronado, California. Cheryl holds a Bachelor of Science degree in physics and mathematics from the University of California, Davis.
